Presenting new and existing works by Australian contemporary artists George Goodnow, Sally McRae, James Caswell, Kinly Grey and Charlie Maycraft, this exhibition was proudly developed in partnership with the Fish Lane Arts Precinct and Merivale Studios as part of the Melt Festival Programming.

About the Artist

McBurnie completed a PhD at the University of Sydney, charted the shifting role of drawing in the digital age, emphasizing the discipline’s ongoing tenacity through tactility, adaptability and eroticism.

McBurnie’s work has been published in Eyeline, Catalogue, The Lifted Brow, Penthouse Australia, Trip, the Journal of Asia-Pacific Pop Culture, Lemonade Letters to Art, SOLRAD and Sneaky, where he was an editor and contributor. He is currently working on his 24th solo exhibition and a graphic novel. He is also the Director of the Rockhampton Museum of Art.

About the Exhibition

The older I get, the less the world seems to make sense to me. Seeming truths that used to be dependable frameworks for my understanding of life and our reality are deteriorating, and for me the act of making art as a response to and witnessing of the world grows even more important to me, perhaps the only thing that still makes sense. A Truth, Fugitive and Imponderable is an attempt to rearrange the chaotic (anti) social order we now have (shaped by corporate greed, rising fascist rhetoric, environmental catastrophe and a general sense of psychic and psychiatric unease), and try to make something that can be, if not beautiful, perhaps personal, reaffirming, critical and maybe even poetic.

Significance of Friday the 13th

Many individuals now see Friday the 13th as an opportunity to reconnect with the divine feminine, celebrate femininity in all its forms, and honour the cycles of nature. Rituals, gatherings and ceremonies on this day often involve meditation, dance and various forms of self-expression that acknowledge the creative and intuitive energies associated with the sacred feminine.

ABOUT

Half a decade in the making, Inner Territory comprises an impressive body of work developed by contemporary artist and muralist Aurora Campbell. Composed of illustrations, sketch book works and rendered ink drawings, Campbells’ solo exhibition candidly explores the artists’ relationship with vulnerability, intimacy, human connection and personal growth over a multi-year period.

Inviting the audience into a world of subtropical jungles, metaphorical beasts, and lush botanical elements, this exhibition grapples with the turmoil and beauty of our innermost selves.

Unapologetically raw and intimate, the works offer both an unflinching look at Campbells’ personal experiences and vulnerabilities, whilst stepping into a dreamlike world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur.
